Miss China Wen Xia Yu is Miss World 2012 Winner

Miss China PR, Wenxia Yu, was crowned the 62nd Miss World which held in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China. Miss Wales Sophie Elizabeth Moulds as the 1st runner-up and Miss Australia Jessica Michele Kahawaty as the 2nd runner-up.

Facebook bought Instagram for $1 Billion

Instagram was Sold to Facebook for $1 Billion, according to a message posted by Mark Zuckerberg. The purchase price of $1 billion will be paid in cash and Facebook shares.

Here's what Mark Zuckerberg said on his blog post:

"I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.


For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram's experience to build similar features into our other products. At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook's strong engineering team and infrastructure.

This is an important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever acquired a product and company with so many users. We don't plan on doing many more of these, if any at all. But providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.

Whitney Houston Dead at 48

American singer, actress, producer, and model Whitney Houston(August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was found dead at 3:55 p.m. at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. She was 48 yrs-old.


The cause of death has not yet been revealed but it is suspected that it was a drug-related.

The award-winning singer is best known for her popular songs “I Will Always Love You,” “Run to You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “The Greatest Love of All,” “One Moment in Time,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” and for the movie “The Bodyguard” with actor Kevin Costner.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is TIME Magazine Person of the Year (2010)

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, the biggest social network with more than 500 million users and now one of the leading Internet companies in the world, is TIME’s Person of the Year for 2010.


“For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them; for creating a new system of exchanging information; and for changing how we all live our lives, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is Time’s 2010 Person of the Year,” explains TIME for making Zuckerberg their 2010 person of the year.

Pinay hurt in Moscow Subway Blast

A Pinay was one of the 102 people hurt in the subway blast in Moscow, Russia Monday morning according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.



"May isang Pilipina na nagkaroon ng minor facial injury sa pagsabog sa Moscow subway station. (Pero) ang kanyang injuries ay hindi life-threatening (A Filipino woman sustained minor facial injuries in the subway station blast. But the injuries are not life-threatening)," Malaya said in an interview on dzRH radio.

"Ang ating embahada ay pumunta sa kanya at tinulungan siya. Di ko masabi at this time kung siya [ay] nangangailangan to stay in the hosptial (Our embassy staff went to her and are helping her. I cannot say at this time if she needs to be hospitalized)," he said.

Filipino-American John Robert Celski Wins Bronze Medal in Winter Olympics

Filipino-American John Robert Celski grab a Bronze Medal in the ongoing Vancouver Winter Olympics.



Celski won the bronze medal in the 1,500-meter short-track speed skating event. Although he is representing the US in the Olympics, he’s proud to have a Filipino blood.

Celski born in Monterey, California is the youngest of three brothers. His father, Robert Celski served in the U.S. Army and his mom Sue is a full-blooded Filipina who hails from Isabela.

“I would love for people to know that I am Filipino. I am very proud to be Filipino. My mother is full blooded Filipino which makes me half,” Celski said. “Ever since I was a little kid I have been around the Filipino culture as most of my friends are Filipinos.”

In fact, Celski has a Philippine flag tattoo on his chest and he’s a great fan of Filipino food like sinigang, lechon, longganisa, pancit, lumpia and adobo.
This is his Olympic debut after he earned a slot in the US team by winning two gold, one silver and two bronze medals last year at the World Championships in Austria.
Celski will try to snare a gold medal in the 5,000 m. relay on February 26.
