“Despicable Me” Wins Weekend Box-Office
“Despicable Me,” Universal’s first 3-D animated movie, pulled $60.1 million in its first weekend to dislodge “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” from the top spot at the box office.
“Despicable Me” features the voice of Steve Carell as Gru, a villain who wanted to steal the moon but saw his life turned around when he met three adorable orphans. Dame Julie Andrews, Russell Brand, and Jason Segel, among others, also lend their voices to the quirky characters in “Despicable Me.”
Meanwhile, “Eclipse” pushed its 12-day total to $237 million by earning $33.35 million in its second weekend. The third installment of the vampire saga is on course to surpass “New Moon” as the highest-grossing film of the franchise. “New Moon” earned $296.6 million last year.
